For me this Kenwood TS480HX is probably the best HF mobile radio out there.

But they are expensive new.

Ebay lionk to TS480HX

ETA: there is no need for any linear with this radio, 200w will be plenty for that alternator to cope with emoticon

TS480 is a cracking radio, I still have my SAT but have looked at the HX model.
Tbh if you had your old set up back you would still have a great bit of kit.
Be great to hear you on air again emoticon

Yea. Though you had one Al . They sound great but for me they're not easy on the eye and a bit big.
I was kind of wondering if anything new had come out since I'd been away ?
I really liked the ic 7000 for coolness factor but again without doing the research , would have though theyre as big as the kenwood ?
The 857 was pretty slick but fancy a change this time .
Hi Dave . How've you been ?
200 watts sounds ace . Used to do around 300watts out of the kl 500 quite comfortably ( 370 watts dirty and overdriven max ) with with the Alterntor backing up the massive 180 amh truck battery 👍👍👍 but only saved that sort of juice for those big gun days .
Quite looking forward to getting back on the hill again and speaking to you guys .

Hi again guys .
Yes still looking but not in a major rush .
Where has junksale gone ????? I'm loathed to buy off Ebay but there seems to be no choice .

After posting a month or 2 ago , I see that the same radios are still strong condenders as when I sold up.

So I'm here with my thoughts :-

Kw 480sat ..... Brilliant but to big for a mobile

Ic 7000..... Bad reviews of overheating

Would have an Ic 706 1 or 2 for the right money ( 250 for a 1 - 350-400 for mk2 ) although I'm not fussed about 2m / 70 cm . Ive always liked hearing them on air but never owned one.

Swaying towards another 857d and atas set up but now junk sake seems to have gone I'm struggling . Surely there is a place to buy and sell ham gear?

Look on Ham radio deals, I've bought loads of stuff on there and as a general rule they are a great bunch of honest guys. A few "up their own" types and a LOT of rules but all those I have dealt with have been proper gentlemen emoticon

HRD

Took over from junksale when they decided to try and get commercial and failed.
