Base Antenna

Getting a base antenna in the air shortly..
Would like a a Sirio Gainmaster but too expensive.
Thinking Antron99, Imax 2000 or Sirio GPE 5/8.. (with the anti-static ball on top)
Any suggestions?
Radio is Alinco DR-135DX.

Re: Base Antenna

You can open a can of worms with a question like that!
How high are you planning on getting it in the air?
Is it more local or Dx?

a 5/8 wave will out perform a 1/2 wave in theory at the right height for the dx.
the A99 & imax2000 stand up well to the wind but can be 'noisy' on rx.
Cant tell you much about the gain master but it would seem these days its the preferred vertical aerial of choice.
But this is of course just my take on it all.

Regards
T

Thanks for the reply..
I suppose it's like.. "How long is a piece of string?"
I was going for the Antron, based on most users experience with it, then I saw some guy took one apart and basically made it out to be a shoddy built and designed antenna..
Not too keen on the long radials of the Sirio GPE 5/8 but it seems like a good antenna.
DX is what I like but without the Beam.

Re: Base Antenna

ive used pretty much every decent antenna available in my last qth.
out of them all the sirio vector was the best.
i had two 20 foot poles up, one with the vector mounted permanently and a tilt over pole i used to test others against it.
I found the gainmaster and the sirio 827 were very similar and the imax 2000 was better then the antron but both fiberglass antennas had a higher noise level compared to the aluminium ones, and the gainmaster was somewhere inbetween the two in relation to noise.
