Help!

Hi,

I am interested in getting into freebanding. I currently have a midland alan 78 plus. Can I use this rig? I also have a handheld Intek H527. This has a frequency counter on the display. I am unsure as to how I can reach specific frequencies, ie: 27.555. Any help would be great!

Thanks in advance!

hi ya tommy welcome to the forum.
1st you need a rig with ssb to get the best of 11 meter dx.
a cobra,presdent lincon,ss3900,etc.
a decent psu (power pack),7-9 or bigger,to run the rig.
then listen on 555 get used to operating the radio,& radio proceedure.
then welcome to dx land, where many a friend will be made??
dont know where you r tom but i do get on regular so if you hear me ,gis a call .

Re: Help!

tommy. take a look at the frequency allocations for the other countries and you may well be able to contact those countries on the fcc 40 (or new legals). please please dont use fm on 27.555 - it wipes us all out.As a rule, the 555 is for ssb only BUT some people do use FM and makes life hell for the rest of us! As i seem to recall, giving a call out on fm on any channel on the mids (26.965-27.405) will get you some european action if you are patient and the skip is running.
i had many good contacts on FM into holland, sweden, denmark and france and germany all on FM on the mids. You may also find some fm calling above 27.700ish. Another good place to look (if your rig goes down that far) is 26mhz and up - quite a few eastern bloc countries use a 40 channel allocation in this band, all using fm.

If it Aint broke, don't fix it, and if you do, don't tell anyone you touched it
