sirio boomerang
i'm restricted for space so i'm thinking of getting a sirio boomerang as an outdoor antenna, i would'nt expect fantastic results but would it be a good choice, and would it be better than my inverted v?
any advice would be welcomed
cheers

Re: sirio boomerang
Steer clear, its worse than your average mobile antenna, much better off with a Sirio Megawatt 4000 and some ground plane, for instance.
Not recommended

Re: sirio boomerang
ok thx for advice....it was just a thought...my v is ok works well enough i was just thinking about maybe getting a discreet antenna for groundwave and the boomerang just seemed like the obvious choice.
cheers

Re: sirio boomerang
right i have a sirio boomerang, the full size one. mine is in the loft and i have used it to DX on SSB, i have not compared it to the V as yet as i havnt ran another lot of coax up to it. i think the full size boomerang would be a good discreet antenna to put on the house, i do think you would need to be out in the open and pretty high up to get the best out of it(for grounwave). i live on a hill but mine is in the loft and i get more interference on the boomerang than the V, also theres no one on the radio that close to me for groundwave contacts of any sense but interference could be to blame for that. i do think the full size boomerang is more like using a 9foot whip antenna and i do think it would outperform a mobile antenna, unless it was a 9foot whip.
why dont you try building a wire 1/4 wave vertical in your loft? se what you can hear on it and se how it performs. that should give you some idea of what a 9 foot antenna outside at gutter levell would work like. if your loft is not 9 foot high just make a small coil at the top of the antenna(wire)using a bit of plastic tube/pipe.
