Starlink
hi all, long time since i have been here, life got in the way followed by a broken radio and antenna, just sorted a cheapo 1/2 wave and had radio repaired so listening as much as possible, as discussed elsewhere conditions seem atrocious and i dont appear to have any local stations on at this time either.
anyways does anyone have thoughts regarding the starlink project and the impact [if any on 11 meter etc]
regards kp

Re: Starlink
Internet satellites
There are a few of these projects. Not just Elon Musk’s. Swarm is another. The spectrum they’re using is cm and mm waves. Little effect on HF or VHF for that matter
It does bring up more concern re millimeter wavelength non ionised radiation and it’s effect on DNA, RNA, gut flora, etc. not just sattelites, but definitely with 60GHz usage aka 5G, though that describes the protocol, not the frequencies.
Most contrarian studies have been shut down by the commercial carriers as they control the advertising dollars to the media, and are pushing local governments, councils and others, hard for physical and cleared space for their radio gear.
Anyway, the effect on the top end of HF will be minimal. I’m just waiting for the sun to “Burp” this solar maximum. It could get interesting if that happens.
The other issue is space junk. We could end up with so much crap floating around out planet at high speed that it will wipe out anything that tries to fly through it. Look up Kessler Syndrome. A bit of an unknown, but not beyond the realms of possibility
So I’m conclusion
It will be fine
