As solar cycle 25 comes in, you can expect some interesting long distance contacts. USA and even Australia won't be impossible.

There is a bit of a CW renaissance going on too. Partly because of the lower sunspot activity, partly because people just want to do something different. I guess you can pick up the phone and talk to anyone anywhere using any number of free services.

Tapping away on a morse key, or swiping some paddes, or even an old Vibroplex bug has a certain ye olde worlde charm about it.

In fact, 40m 7025KHz here in Sydney is busier than our city FM repeaters on 2m and 70cm

When you can, upgrade from your foundation as it will get you on to 20m and there is a lot of DX to be had there.

Fantastic! My favorite mode (I'm taking my vibroplex to the grave!)

[grumble-mode engaged] The amateur bands are waking up a good bit, even up to 15m, but digital modes like FT8 are, in my opinion, killing the "Art of Conversation". I guess it's now just about collecting numbers (between FT8 and the usual weekend contest activity) rather than relating to fellow human beings with a common interest. Okay, maybe I'm taking it too seriously, and I won't overlook the fact that phone (even AM) and CW are far from dead.[done grumbling]

Now, if I can ever find time to get on the air...

I see many sunspots in your future.
