inverted v
Hi all,
New member, have joined up to the site, got to say I am very impressed, am out of touch since the early fm cb days, if I put up a inverted v in the attic or outside one day, will it work fm vertical & ssb horizontal ok, or do I have to put a silver rod up for more local fm work, & also put up a seperate horizontal half wave dipole for ssb dx, was very impressed on the home made inverted dipole for attic use in the antenna section, good diaqrams, keep it up, hope to hear back from someone about this, cheers.

Re: inverted v
Hi Keith and welcome. Funny, I just spoke with Tony-26FB147 and we were talking about his inverted V, from what I understand they work well with everything but no doubt someone who has one will answer your question better. There are quite a lot on here that have just come back into radios in the past few months.
All the best

Re: inverted v
i havnt had any groundwave on FM using my inverted V, i have heard a station about 12 miles away on SSB but i dont think he could hear me, but there was alot of skip about. For DX on SSB it seems to pick up vertical and horizontal signals, i spoke to scotland on the skip and he was using a vertical and was quiet suprised when i told him i was on a indoor inverted V. I also think they pick up horizontal signals better than a vertical when the skip is running, and its just a peice of speaker wire(and balun).
for CB groundwave FM operation i would use a silver rod or simular vertical antenna, but for SSB DX the inverted V is a cheap option or you could use a Sirio SD(SY?)27 dipole and run it horizontal.... OR just use the silver rod it would work well

Re: inverted v
hey hello mr silverbandit!!
i have had my inverted v up in my loft for a few weeks now and i have worked a few stations from plymouth thru to switzerland and germany, spain, france and italy just on my superstar and 10w (btw i'm based in hull on the east coast!) so i am quite impressed with how well the inverted v does work just goes to show you dont need an expensive outdoor antenna when you can get results on a piece of wire.

Re: inverted v
Hi Keith and welcome back, Yes I too have been using 3900 with inverted V in loft using a choke balun(see pic in seperate thread) never had any local groundwave even when just SWLing. but as Shane says excellent cheap antenna for DX when skip is right.
