sirio 4 - sirio 3
OK, I know there is a difference in gain but I want to buy a beam that I can use portable and wondered what the difference would be in assembling them on my own, would the 4 elle take much more time/effort to assemble than the 3 elle? For a homebase setup I would def go for the 4 as theres not much difference in price but have noticed most use the 3 for portable use.
Also, anyone got a sale on these for January that you know of-love a bargain! £73.36 best price I can find for the 3 ellement

Re: sirio 4 - sirio 3
From theory I'd go for the 3 element, as from there on the gain achieved by adding extra elements is progressively less.
With 3 elements you have the driven element (obviously), a director and a reflector - these are responsible for most of the antenna's performance, and to realise any serious gains over this you would really need to be looking at something similar to a TV antenna with 10 - 20 directors, and that really isn't practical at 11 metres!
Also less stuff to assemble in the wind.

Re: sirio 4 - sirio 3
After a lot of thought I have gone for the 3 ellement beam, it will be easier to manage (I hope) if I need to put it up alone and quicker to assemble when portable.
I had thought long and hard on making one but dont think it would have survived the winds we have here. Should be here by weekend so will keep you posted how I get on with it.

Look forward to working you Al on the 3 ele definately would make good contact. I doubt, even if it arrives in time, you'll be putting it up this weekend though
I have a few spares for a Sirio beam, like the gamma match etc, so gives us a shout if you ever need 'em

Re: sirio 4 - sirio 3
WhooHooo. my 3 elli came this morning, just as I was going out on a job, typical! Instructions looked a bit vague on first glance, have to have another look at them tonight, might put it together in the kitchen (before the wife comes home!)
